Alibaba has unveiled its chatbot, potentially positioning itself as a competitor to ChatGPT. In the rapidly evolving landscape of AI, companies worldwide are seizing the opportunity to stay relevant by developing their own chatbot solutions. Alibaba’s offering, named ‘Tongyi Qianwen,’ meaning “truth from a thousand questions,” was introduced by Alibaba’s chairman and chief executive, Daniel Zhang. Although specific details were not disclosed, the chatbot is slated to be integrated into various Alibaba businesses. Initially, Tongyi Qianwen will be deployed on Alibaba’s communication platform DingTalk, where it will execute basic tasks to gauge its efficiency. This move comes amidst a surge in AI investments by tech firms following the release of ChatGPT by Microsoft in November. Other major players, including Google’s parent company Alphabet and Chinese tech conglomerate Baidu, have also launched their own chatbots. While these advancements hold promise, there are concerns among industry leaders about the potential societal impact of AI, prompting calls for cautious development.
